Captain’s Quarters: June 2017 Update

Hey guys! Aly here, dropping in with a quick (and much-needed) update on writing, life, and the website in general. Things are changing around here, and hopefully for the better. I’m hoping to post more frequently and post more of the stuff we both love! Without any further ado, let’s get to the update!

While my drafting and editing have cooled way down since publishing “Kingdom of the New Moon” a few months ago, I’m still alive and kicking. I’ve begun brainstorming and outlining for books 2 and 3 of my epic fantasy series, The Mending.  I’ve also made some progress on the outline and draft of my for-fun fanfiction project, “Rattle the Stars,” a Treasure Planet/Alice in Wonderland crossover. Brainstorming for “Journey by Journal” and “Kingdom of the Blue Sun” are under way as well, though not the focus of my attention at the moment.

Baby Clark is progressing as expected, and is as healthy as a little baby boy can be. Yes, it’s a boy! I posted a gender reveal video starring my husband on my personal Facebook page. Unfortunately, the cake looked a little green on the site, so we got some confused (and hilarious) comments. “What does green mean?” It’s an alien, obvs. XD

I’m doing a lot of things to prepare for this little one, so writing has taken a bit of a backseat for quite some time. I’m trying to use this second trimester energy to accomplish some goals before I’m forced to go off the grid for a few weeks once he’s born. I’ll let you guys know what my expected hiatus will be in a future post. I’ll also try to drop by from time to time to let you all know how things are going, how I’m feeling, and when I expect to be back in business.

I’ve taken on a new transcription contracting job! It’s heavenly compared to the sole position I’ve held for a couple years now. I now have more options for work, along with better pay. My eggs are not all in one basket anymore. Thanks be to God!

Great news–my husband FINALLY got his heart’s desire and is going to be a kindergarten teacher this coming school year. This means a) he’s incredibly happy, which means everything to me, and b) we don’t have to worry about struggling through the summer next year and he can quit his pizza delivery job at the end of July! We’re super excited about this new phase in his life. It’ll be his first year teaching, so he’s super nervous. His future boss seems very supportive, though, and actually proactively worked to get him on board the staff.

We’re both very grateful for the opportunity. But we still need to make it through this summer and the birth of our child before we can breathe a financial sigh of relief. So keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Maybe spread the word about “Kingdom of the New Moon” or mention my editing services to someone you know so I can help support our flimsy income this summer! ^_^

Update on the Site

On this blog, I want it to be geared toward your enjoyment–you, the faithful reader of my fiction and enjoyer of the geeky content I spew forth. So if there’s anything you’d like to see improved, added, or done away with, drop me a line in the comments. I’d be more than happy to consider any suggestions you lovely peeps might have for me. The site is still definitely a work in progress. Expect little changes frequently as I add new pages and make the navigation as easy as possible for you guys!

I’m hoping to post once weekly, perhaps more often if time allows. Expect to see fun posts, chapters, cover art concepts, book reviews, random GIFs, writing quotes, and all-around geekiness. And if you like what you see, don’t forget to subscribe so you can stay up to date on the latest posts. You’ll also receive my monthly newsletter, where you’ll get links to freebies and updates on all my works-in-progress. I’ll also answer a question from a reader about anything to do with my books, my life, my faith, or geekiness in general.

I’m also going to post links to my Fiverr account, as well as offer my editing and beta reading services directly through the site. My primary career is as an author, but I love helping other authors and aspiring writers with their craft. I’ve got a few great recommendations from previous clients and students. I also have a professional background as a college-level writing tutor. So if you ever need a second pair of eyes on a chapter, blog post, outline, or anything, really, I’m happy to help!

Future Posts and Events

I’ll be giving away “Kingdom of the New Moon” the week of my birthday (June 14-16). So if you wanted to read it but haven’t had any extra dough, now’s your chance! Just leave an honest review when you’re done. And if you love it, tell a friend. It would mean the world to me!

Keep an eye out for updates on “Kingdom of the Blue Sun,” and also updates on my non-fiction writing help book, “Journey by Journal.” If you have any questions about journaling as part of the writing process, let me know in the comments so I can include them in my book!

Also, updates on The Mending will be forthcoming. Prepare your souls.

Within this month, I’m going to start posting chapters of my fanfiction project. If you love Disney, make sure to stay tuned for updates!

Well, that’s it, I think!

That about wraps up my update! Please feel free to drop a “hello” in the comments. And tell me how you guys feel about what’s going on here at AlyCatAuthor! I really love chatting with you guys. Thanks for stopping by, and I’ll see you next post!
